3 Free Plugins and Why You Need These Particular Ones

The Best Plugin Out There

Of course this is only my opinion, but I know many bloggers out there who will agree with me. CommentLuv!!

CommentLuv is, in a word, AWESOME!! Want to reward your blog commentators with a quality backlink? Then you need CommentLuv and the best part, it is Free! If you have spent any time on popular blogs like this one or AttractionMarketingOnline.com by Mavis Nong or the very popular TrafficGenerationCafe.com by Ana Hoffman. Then you have seen comments that look like this:

CommentLuv In Action

Here Is What CommentLuv can Do For Your Blog

It gives your commentators a chance to choose from either one or 10 of their last blog posts, depending on how you have it setup. It is very powerful and can help you retain readers to your blog.

The Best Spam Protection Plugin Out There

GASP or Growmap Anti-Spambot Plugin is the best way to stop robot spammers from infecting your blog comments. Askimet has got nothin on this plugin.

I am sure you have seen this on other blogs, this one included:

GASP

GASP Plugin in action

GASP requires your commentators to click the little box, before they submit their comment. Robots can’t do that, so it completely removes those awful spam comments that Askimet may leave behind and the best part, is it doesn’t put any comments into your spam folder.

As I am sure you know, Askimet has been known to put good comments into the spam folder.

KeywordLuv Enough Said

KeywordLuv is a plugin that allows your commentators to put their keywords in the name box, along with their names. It links their url to the keywords, instead of the name. That is huge for SEO purposes. As we all know, keyword links are much better in googles eyes than a name would be. I don’t know about you, but I really don’t like it when people leave a comment on my blog and put just a keyword as their name. People, please use your name.

KeywordLuv can help to remove those kind of comments from your blog, although many people still do it, err.

Can It Get Any Better Than This?

Well, yes it can. These are all great plugins and they were all written by one person, Andy Bailey, he is the man, if you ask me. Anyway, Andy has just come out with CommentLuv Premium, a paid version of CommentLuv and man it is awesomely powerful. It combines all of the plugins I mentioned in this post, plus a few more and all of them have upgraded features. Still don’t believe me? Well, you need to check out this:

  1. About akismet, I hate that plug in. Even in my site, I put a comment and have been flagged as spam. So I never see my comment anymore. If you contact them, they ignores you. So much for the team they have.

  2. At this time it looks like WordPress is the preferred blogging platform available right now.
(from what I’ve read) Is that what you are using on your blog?

  3. I like keyword Luv. It actually allow you to acquire rankings for words you probably didnt even imagine you would.

  4. I’m extremely impressed along with your writing abilities and also with the layout in your blog. Is this a paid subject matter or did you customize it yourself? Anyway stay up the excellent high quality writing, it’s uncommon to see a nice weblog like this one these days..

  5. Your CommentLuv isn’t giving me any posts to select from and I really wanted to let you and your readers know to come by and fill out the little form on my post where you can promote your blog so I’ll know to add you to my lists – and also most DoFollow CommentLuv blogs are eligible to be added to my Twitterfeed so all my right at 26,000 Twitter followers see your new posts as they’re published.

I just added your blog to my CommentLuv, KeywordLuv and Internet Marketing lists on Twitter. If you’ll fill out the form in the post I’ll link to the name field (the word GrowMap) I’ll get you in my other lists, too. I need the info about what fields are DoFollow to put you in the correct section in a chart I’m making and to know who qualifies for our private influencers forum.

  6. Hi Ian,

Thanks for the mention and seriously consider CommentLuv Premium (CLP) because it really is awesome for so many reasons. I have posts on my blog that rounded up almost 30 reviews that explain why it is worth paying for – and our new blogging contest to be announced tomorrow includes the chance to win CLP!

I love that I can choose from 5 of my favorite posts or pages in addition to my last 10 posts, but the incentives for sharing aren’t bad either.

  7. Keywordluv and commentluv are my favorite plugins. They are very useful.

  8. I agree ian that they are some of the best pluggins. I did not know the new comment luv would take care of all three now. I am suprised you did not also include top commentor and seo pluggins.

  9. I’m really looking for a spam protection plugin, thanks for sharing I will try this GASP. Nice list of important plugins.

  10. Keywordluv and Commentluv, I really like this plugins. It also helps to find do-follow comment blogs.

  11. I love keywordluv, it rewardeward commentators by separating their name from their keywords in the link to their website, giving them improved anchor text.

  12. I admire the time and effort you put into your website and the detailed information you offer. Keep on posting and I look forward to seeing more post from you..

  13. why to ever consider any other, when everything is stuffed in a single plugin?
weather its spam or rewarding readers with backlink
    commentluv is the best

  14. This is very interesting. It also surprised me a lot. This blog is also informative.
Keep on posting and I look forward to seeing more post from you.

  15. I am a css and graphic designer and it’s functionality and SEO is unmatched, in my opinion.

  16. Hello Ian,
Is there a particular theme you would recommend using? Also, what additional plug-in do you recommend and which plug-ins work best with yours? I am going to have to give them a try here pronto…
    Thanks.
    Mike

    • Hi Mike,

I personally like Thesis theme, because I am a css and graphic designer and it’s functionality and SEO is unmatched, in my opinion.

Now, if you are looking for themes with pre-built templates that you can select from. A theme like flexibility may be more to your liking. Thesis theme does have what are called child themes, which you can purchase to change the layout of your site.

As far as plugins go, it all depends on what you are looking to do with your site. The plugins I mentioned above are on every site I build. Another great plugin is All In One SEO Pack.

There are thousands of plugins out there, free and paid, and you can do almost anything with the proper plugins. You just need to know what you are looking to accomplish with your site.

If you would like some personal help with wordpress design I am available for a small fee. Just use the contact form on my Contact Me page.

Thanks for commenting Mike, hope this helps you.

  17. We all know blogs are playing very important role in online promotion. If a blog is SEO friendly then chances to get exposure from it more.Specially when we talk about wordpress blog then it is very difficult to make them seo friendly without using any plugin. So every blogger should have knowledge about seo plugin and should use seo plugins on their blog to perform well on SEs.
Thanks for having a great knowledge as well as discussion.

  18. We’ve recently switched our blog over to WordPress and are having fun checking out the various plugins. We’ll definitely be giving some of these a try!

  19. I have used CommentLuv plugin and it is a great way to increase traffic and help in link building. I like the new premium version of their with Facebook Share and Google + buttons included.

  20. CommentLuv is really a very useful one and it really brings good things. Thanks for sharing the information with us.
    Roy,

  21. You can get help of professionals too, we have been using Internet Search Optimizer for our website… i suggest you other company because building back links is continuous and tedious work.thanks

  22. Good post. Thanks for sharing this useful information with us.

  23. Well, CommentLuv premium plugin is one of the essential and effective plugin. It helps a blog to gain more trust and authority as visitors keep coming back to comment and share something new that adds some value to the blog. Thanks for sharing such wonderful plugins.

  24. Today, I tired to install a vlc plugin in google chrome. But I have no idea about how to Install and use vlc plugin inside google chrome portable.

  25. These are nice plugins you pointed out here. May be i will install it soon :)

  26. I’m impressed, I must say. Really rarely can i encounter a blog that’s the two educative and entertaining, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail over the head. Your idea is actually outstanding; the issue is a factor that not enough people are generally speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that stumbled across this around my search for something relating to this.

  27. Just got this for myself, and after worrying about switching from the standard spam protection to GASP, I’ve seen no discernible issues.

  28. Thanks for the GASP pluggin. I have been looking for that one and it does make total sense. I have installed it already on my sites.

  29. HI Ian,

I use all three of these plugins. They are very effective and definitely should be on any wordpress blogger’s list. :)

    Heather

  30. Hi Ian,

Nice list, these are great plugins. Commentluv is a must have plugin for wordpress.
    Thanks for sharing!

  31. As a user, a visitor, I find comment luv great to use. I’ve commented on both keyword luv and comment luv and I think both are very interesting to use. Its really interesting to visit WP blogs since its so user friendly and one gets to learn more by interacting with other. Its always interesting to read such important posts and keep myself updated.

  32. I agree that these 3 plugins are very useful, actually I will install this later to enjoy it’s benefits.

  33. Hey Ian,

Great plugins. One that complements those greatly is ‘Stop Forum Spam’ (free). Although it says its for forums, it also works great on blogs. It checks around 3-4 spammer databases to stop spammers at every potential access point.

That really helps cut out a lot of spam and has saved my moderating time massively!

  34. Hi Ian,
I also continue to be amazed at this amazing tool. It just keeps getting better and I wouldn’t mind paying for the premium version if it will make my life easier and add more value to it. Since the first time I’ve come across it, I only keep hearing good things and I’ve also benefited a lot from it.
I hope Andy continue to amaze us with this gem.
Thanks for sharing your glowing review. Have a nice day!

  35. Hi Ian,

I agree – those are all necessary plugins! I haven’t looked into the premium plugin, right now I am very happy with the three as they are. Hopefully the premium version won’t lessen the free ones.

    Stacy

    • Hi Stacy,

From what I have heard and read, nothing will change with the free versions. I am going to stick with them for now. The premium version will have a few more options and will consolidate 4 or 5 plugins into one, if you are someone who is worried about having to many plugins, which I am not.

Thanks for commenting Stacy and have a great day!

  36. I agree with your picks, especially CommentLuv. It’s a must at every site to reward anyone that takes time to post a good comment. GASP is also a very good one. I have heard a lot of good things about it and many have started to prefer it over Akismet now which is good to see as I also had problems with the latter quite often.

    -Jean

  37. I actually find KeywordLuv a better plug-in and a definitely more useful one, but while browsing many blogs and websites, I commonly see CommentLuv. Both are very helpful though in making readers come back every once in a while. :)

    Improve Blog Ranking

  38. Hi Ian,

I agree that this 3 plug-ins are a must-have, since it will give big benefits to the blogger as well as to their readers. KeywordLuv is the plug-in I love the most (you can see it, I’m using it already. Hehe) with this plug-in we, commenter, can put our keywords including our name which will prove that we’re not a spammer but a quality commenter. I think purchasing CommentLuv Premium will gain all of this plug-in, I just saw it on other blog.

  39. HI Ian, I love Comment Luv and I also love GASP. Weirdly never used Keyword Luv. don’t ask me why… I guess I should get on it or wait for the Premium comment Luv.

I also love Ana, although haven’t been to her place for a while. She taught me so much as a newbie blogger. She truly is awesome and has her finger on the pulse.

Thanks Ian for spreading the word on these awesome plugins. Life is so much easier with them.

    Best

  40. Hi..
You have share useful tips about comment Luv . These all plugging are useful for every one. I like your post so keep continue to share more tips about this topics.

  41. Love Comment Luv but the developer is now starting to charge for it. Got an email offering Premium Comment Luv to me for $20. Have a feeling that in a not too distant future we will all have to pay for Comment Luv. The idea presumably is that by then so many people have seen the benefits and will be willing to pay. Let’s see.

  42. Hi Ian,
    Very useful post my friend:)
I was using akismet before I read this post.I checked the spam folder and guess what-5 good blog Comment Luv is one of my favourites:) A little jewel for every blog.
Thanks for your suggestions. I really enjoyed it!

    All the best,
    Radu

  43. Hi Ian,

I can’t agree with you more about what you’re promoting here. I have been using them for a while, and am convinced of the hospitality factor of using comment and key word love. I have different plugin for comment spam, although it does exactly the same thing. I was having a problem with tremendous amount of trackback spam, until I remembered reading about the same problem over on Ana Hoffman’s blog. After searching a bit, I found her post where she shared a plugin called Simple Trackback Validation with Topsy Blocker. I t requires some kind of validation a robot can’t provide, and stopped the spam 100%. Not a single nother one! Of course, what can you expect from “The Woman”, Ana Hoffman.

    Lou

    • Hey Lou,

I agree Lou, Ana is “The Women” or as I call her “The Queen of Traffic Generation.” I have learned alot from her, including the very plugin you discussed.

I don’t know where my blog would be if I hadn’t found Ana’s blog, definitely not where it is today.

Thanks for commenting Lou and have a great day!

  44. I just installed these 3 plug ins into my blog a month ago. And I’m very satisfied with the result. These 3 amazing plugins really works well.

  45. Useful tips, as always, Ian! I’ve been using CommentLuv but not KeywordLuv or GASP… though Akismet has been OK for me so far.

  46. These are some good plugins,

I specially like the way CommentLuv adds a link to a post on your site.

    GASP is good too.

  47. I remember having huge trouble with spam. Even with Akismet installed. Too much was getting through. I threw in the GASP plugin, and to my amazement – almost every spam plugin was caught. I just can’t say enough good about the plugin.

Completely revolutionized my blog, and gave me some extra free time!
    Thanks for sharing.
    Christian

  48. How many of these services are covered by CommentLuv Premium?

  49. These tips are amazing. We use them all on our blogs.

I can’t applaud you enough for pointing out so bluntly the problem with askimet. I have seen people in my office, who go to car blogs and GENUINELY comment on issues they know how to rectify, only to find themselves Askiment Blacklisted simply because they post a lot of the same comments on different sites.

It doesn’t realize that there is really only one reason for blue smoke out of your exhaust… Change your oil!

  50. First of all, I am 100% agree for the CommentLuv plugin. It can really help your blog attract more visitors and they comeback for more, and doing comments and interactions.

  51. Ian,

Some powerful tools here! 1 note though, when commentluv premium gets into our hot little hands it has a keywordluv function for the name block, SO I think we won’t need keywordlu at that point
