3 Free Plugins and Why You Need These Particular Ones

by Ian Belanger

The Best Plugin Out There

Of course this is only my opinion, but I know many bloggers out there who will agree with me. CommentLuv!!

CommentLuv is, in a word, AWESOME!! Want to reward your blog commentators with a quality backlink? Then you need CommentLuv and the best part, it is Free! If you have spent any time on popular blogs like this one or AttractionMarketingOnline.com by Mavis Nong or the very popular TrafficGenerationCafe.com by Ana Hoffman. Then you have seen comments that look like this:

CommentLuv In Action Here Is What CommentLuv can Do For Your Blog

It gives your commentators a chance to choose from either one or 10 of their last blog posts, depending on how you have it setup. It is very powerful and can help you retain readers to your blog.

The Best Spam Protection Plugin Out There

GASP or Growmap Anti-Spambot Plugin is the best way to stop robot spammers from infecting your blog comments. Askimet has got nothin on this plugin.

I am sure you have seen this on other blogs, this one included:

GASP GASP Plugin in action

GASP requires your commentators to click the little box, before they submit their comment. Robots can’t do that, so it completely removes those awful spam comments that Askimet may leave behind and the best part, is it doesn’t put any comments into your spam folder.

As I am sure you know, Askimet has been known to put good comments into the spam folder.

KeywordLuv Enough Said

KeywordLuv is a plugin that allows your commentators to put their keywords in the name box, along with their names. It links their url to the keywords, instead of the name. That is huge for SEO purposes. As we all know, keyword links are much better in googles eyes than a name would be. I don’t know about you, but I really don’t like it when people leave a comment on my blog and put just a keyword as their name. People, please use your name.

KeywordLuv can help to remove those kind of comments from your blog, although many people still do it, err.

Can It Get Any Better Than This?

Well, yes it can. These are all great plugins and they were all written by one person, Andy Bailey, he is the man, if you ask me. Anyway, Andy has just come out with CommentLuv Premium, a paid version of CommentLuv and man it is awesomely powerful. It combines all of the plugins I mentioned in this post, plus a few more and all of them have upgraded features. Still don’t believe me? Well, you need to check out this:

There is a great giveaway going on at the Traffic Generation Cafe Blog, your ultimate hub for all things web traffic, where you can win your own copy of the hottest plugin release of the year – CommentLuv Premium. Participating is very easy: just visit Ana’s CommentLuv Premium giveaway page for more information.

Ana gives you an excellent review of the new plugin, plus you can win your own CommentLuv Premium from her. Now how great is that?

I hope that these plugins help you as much as they have helped me and don’t forget to stop over and see Ana to win your own CommentLuv Premium Plugin.

Also, feel free to share this post with everyone you know by using the buttons I have provided for you beside, above and below this post.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Ian,

Some powerful tools here! 1 note though, when commentluv premium gets into our hot little hands it has a keywordluv function for the name block, SO I think we won’t need keywordlu at that point

Hi Steve,

Yes they are powerful.

If you read the paragraph under “Can It Get Any Better Than This?” You will see that I said that CommentLuv Premium combines all of the plugins I mentioned, plus a few more. I just wanted people to know that they don’t have to pay for CommentLuv Premium to get some of the functionality it provides.

Thanks for commenting Steve and have a great day!

These tips are amazing. We use them all on our blogs.

I can’t applaud you enough for pointing out so bluntly the problem with askimet. I have seen people in my office, who go to car blogs and GENUINELY comment on issues they know how to rectify, only to find themselves Askiment Blacklisted simply because they post a lot of the same comments on different sites.

I remember having huge trouble with spam. Even with Akismet installed. Too much was getting through. I threw in the GASP plugin, and to my amazement – almost every spam plugin was caught. I just can’t say enough good about the plugin.

Completely revolutionized my blog, and gave me some extra free time!

Hi Ian,

I can’t agree with you more about what you’re promoting here. I have been using them for a while, and am convinced of the hospitality factor of using comment and key word love. I have different plugin for comment spam, although it does exactly the same thing. I was having a problem with tremendous amount of trackback spam, until I remembered reading about the same problem over on Ana Hoffman’s blog. After searching a bit, I found her post where she shared a plugin called Simple Trackback Validation with Topsy Blocker. I t requires some kind of validation a robot can’t provide, and stopped the spam 100%. Not a single nother one! Of course, what can you expect from “The Woman”, Ana Hoffman.

Love Comment Luv but the developer is now starting to charge for it. Got an email offering Premium Comment Luv to me for $20. Have a feeling that in a not too distant future we will all have to pay for Comment Luv. The idea presumably is that by then so many people have seen the benefits and will be willing to pay. Let’s see.

Hi Ian,

I agree that this 3 plug-ins are a must-have, since it will give big benefits to the blogger as well as to their readers. KeywordLuv is the plug-in I love the most (you can see it, I’m using it already. Hehe) with this plug-in we, commenter, can put our keywords including our name which will prove that we’re not a spammer but a quality commenter. I think purchasing CommentLuv Premium will gain all of this plug-in, I just saw it on other blog.

Great plugins. One that complements those greatly is ‘Stop Forum Spam’ (free). Although it says its for forums, it also works great on blogs. It checks around 3-4 spammer databases to stop spammers at every potential access point.

That really helps cut out a lot of spam and has saved my moderating time massively!

Hi Mike,

I personally like Thesis theme, because I am a css and graphic designer and it’s functionality and SEO is unmatched, in my opinion.

Now, if you are looking for themes with pre-built templates that you can select from. A theme like flexibility may be more to your liking. Thesis theme does have what are called child themes, which you can purchase to change the layout of your site.

As far as plugins go, it all depends on what you are looking to do with your site. The plugins I mentioned above are on every site I build. Another great plugin is All In One SEO Pack.

There are thousands of plugins out there, free and paid, and you can do almost anything with the proper plugins. You just need to know what you are looking to accomplish with your site.

If you would like some personal help with wordpress design I am available for a small fee. Just use the contact form on my Contact Me page.

Your CommentLuv isn’t giving me any posts to select from and I really wanted to let you and your readers know to come by and fill out the little form on my post where you can promote your blog so I’ll know to add you to my lists – and also most DoFollow CommentLuv blogs are eligible to be added to my Twitterfeed so all my right at 26,000 Twitter followers see your new posts as they’re published.

I just added your blog to my CommentLuv, KeywordLuv and Internet Marketing lists on Twitter. If you’ll fill out the form in the post I’ll link to the name field (the word GrowMap) I’ll get you in my other lists, too. I need the info about what fields are DoFollow to put you in the correct section in a chart I’m making and to know who qualifies for our private influencers forum.

I’m extremely impressed along with your writing abilities and also with the layout in your blog. Is this a paid subject matter or did you customize it yourself? Anyway stay up the excellent high quality writing, it’s uncommon to see a nice weblog like this one these days..

At this time it looks like Wordpress is the preferred blogging platform available right now.
(from what I’ve read) Is that what you are using on your blog?

About akismet, I hate that plug in. Even in my site, I put a comment and have been flagged as spam. So I never see my comment anymore. If you contact them, they ignores you. So much for the team they have.
