Find your Target Market

Copywriting Tips

Writing good sales copy is something that every business must do in order to thrive in their Target Market. Whether you send your sales letter via email or hard copy, certain copywriting tips need to be followed in order to have a persuasive sales letter that will get you results. Listed below are four important Copywriting Tips that will ensure that your sales conversions are increased.

What Is Your Target Market?

The first tip is to determine what your target market is in order to decide on the content of the sales letter. What is your target market? Well you need to find out. Look at your product, think about who will most likely be looking for the product you are advertising. That is your target market.

Now, your sales letters’ most important job is to sell that product to your target market. That’s why you must know your audience well, before you Write an Ad. Your ad content must connect with your audience. If the ad is perfectly written, but lacks the basic details that your target market is looking for, then your ad is of no use and you can throw it away.

How To Write An Ad

The second copywriting tip is about the language you use when writing an ad. The language of your ad should be formal, but at the same time, not too formal and not too direct. Your ad copy must appear to be conversational but, at the same time it must include words that are driving and convincing. These are known as power words and they are designed to touch on a certain emotional response in the reader.

Solving Their Problem

The third copywriting tip is to let the reader think that you are the expert and you know exactly what the problem is and that you know how to solve it for them. In other words, you must convince them that you really know their problems and the target market. Therefore, use the language and jargon of the Target Market in your ad in order to gain trust and create a good response. This is one of the most important Copywriting Tips because it creates confidence in your products and services in the readers mind.

Standing Out Above The Crowd

The fourth and final Copywriting Tip deals with the way you present your ad and what makes you stand out above the crowd. The ad or sales copy that you write should always be completely unique and much different than other ads in your target market. This will help your business stand out from the others. The reader of your ad should not feel as if your advertisement is the same as the 20 other ones they received today. As Internet Marketers, we can add an extra component like a video or audio recording in order to make your ad copy stand out.

Follow these Copywriting Tips when you write you next advertisement and your sales conversions will go up. Remember, the most important part of writing an ad is doing the research beforehand, to figure out who your target market actually is, so you can tailor your ad copy perfectly to their needs. Hi Ian,

Very valuable info here. Writing copy can seem like a challenge for awhile, the trick is to keep practicing and learning. It’s amazing how much we can learn from others when we look at it that way.

Being able to write good copy is important in all aspects of marketing. Even if someone is primarily doing videos, good copy needs to be a part of the video prep work.

Great info!

Ian, aloha. It is amazing how often you receive a blank stare when you ask someone who who is your target market. After all, if we don’t know who we want to buy our product or service, how can we find them?

You are so right, Ian, people need to know our product/service can solve their problem and that they are much better off with it than without it.

Well done. Enjoy a great weekend. Aloha. Janet

Hi Janet,

Thanks for your kind words. Yes target market is soooo important to us internet marketers. I think that is where many newbies go wrong. They try and sell to anyone and everyone. When they really should be marketing to only those who actually need their product/service.

Research, research, research, it is all important in this business!

Hi Ian,

Solid tips on a very imporant topic. It’s harder than it looks for some reason which I guess is why advertising agencies pay good copywriters a fortune to work for them.

I think the biggest challenge for us is not that we can’t learn the skills required but that we can’t give it the full attention it requires because there are so mnay other tasks we must also do.

Hi Marcus,

You are so right, budgeting our time can be very difficult and most of us don’t set enough aside for writing copy since we spend alot of time writing posts for our blogs, but it can greatly improve your conversions if you have good copy, so I think we all should budget a little more time for it. I know I am trying to.

Hi Ian,

I agree that writing copy is the bread and butter of most businesses, especially online businesses. Nothing screams of unprofessionalism like poorly written copy.

I personally make extensive use of swipe files. While I’m OK at writing, it’s comfortable to have the words of Joe Sugarman or Bob Bly to fall back on. That’s just me.

Even with that, I still have to keep in mind who my target market is.

Great information. Thanks for sharing!

Very helpful tips, Ian. The most difficult for me is making my ad stand out from the crowd. It seems like everything has been done before. With the internet age, brilliant advertising ideas have become more available. This makes it more difficult to come up with a unique ad since anyone can search for ideas online. The bar has also been raised greatly, so it’s good that you pointed out the option to add audio and/or video to our ads to spice things up. I agree with Wade’s comment that offering to solve the reader’s problems will get their attention and turn them to potential clients.

Hi Roro,

The market has become cluttered recently, but one benefit is, that there are so many more people to see your ads and new people come online everyday. I read a stat that something like 500 million people are searching for ways to make money online, each month. That is a huge market and even if you only get 1% of that, that’s 5 million people.

There is room for all of us, the key is targeting your advertising to a certain market, the narrower your focus, the better.

Thanks for these tips. There are too many businesses out there who try to advertise to anyone instead of concentrating on their target market like you say to do. People do want their problems to be solved and if you want to sell to them you need to be able to solve them, not dangle useless things in front of them hoping they’ll take the bait. Understand your target customer.

When I’m writing an ad I usually visualize, like I’m one of those street salesman; trying to stop someone by saying something interesting, then I have a few seconds to increase their interest so they will commit to listening to what I have to say. If I fail to capture their interest they will say they are busy and walk away
