Blogging as a sole source of income is not an unfeasible idea anymore. In fact, if you plan your moves right you can really outdo yourself in this particular field. However, starting up can be tricky. Plus, there is the whole process of promoting your blog and coming up with consistent content. It might be a good idea to join blog networks at the initial phase of your blogging career. It might just be the perfect start to give you the right experience and also help you in many other ways.
In this post, by blog network, I don’t mean the social networks. There are excellent blog communities where groups of bloggers get together and help each others’ business. Some of the popular communities are Blog Engage, Blokube, Blog Interact; there are quite some private Facebook groups and mastermind communities.
Sometimes, bloggers, especially when they start out as newbies, don’t realize the power of a network or community. In this post I will tell you why bloggers should join a blog network by all means.
Establish your presence in the web community:
It will take some time for you to establish your presence in the internet. Blogging is quite more interactive than normal updating of content. This is one aspect where starting off with a blog network will give you a really needed boost in the right direction.
When I first started writing about Bistro MD and Diet to go coupons for my other site Coupon Triumph, it is the blogging networks that helped me to establish my presence in the niche. We were part of a small group of potential like minded people who helped each other.
Your expertise:
No matter what niche you start off in, it will take some time to establish yourself as an expert on that niche. Remember, people rely on experts far more than general writers. They will look at your blog as the much trusted solution provider. With your own blog, you can definitely achieve this status.
However, it will be really slow before you see the proper outcome. With a blog network the process is accelerated and people start recognizing your expertise quite early on.
Large networks, large community:
As a starting blogger, it is very important for you to concentrate on your networking skills. Now, as much as you need to connect with your readers, you also need to be connected to your fellow bloggers. Solo blogs will have a harder time reaching out to many bloggers who might be interested in the same niche and have the proper high standards to be considered experts.
In a blog network these distinctions will already have been created on the basis of each of the contributors’ profile and write-ups. It will be easier for you to start networking with such bloggers and benefit from their experiences and expertise.
The SEO advantage:
When you are with a blog network you invariably connect to a large number of bloggers and blogs all over the internet. Your association to the blog network can help you a lot with your blogging success. Like it has been already mentioned that you get to be a part of a larger community, you also get the benefit of SEO.
You will get good social media exposure if you get your friends in the network to share your posts, while you do the same for them. Similarly you can link to each other. You can exchange comments. All these will boost your social proof and also do good for your SEO.
Attract more traffic:
Blog networks usually have a much bigger budget than personal or small scale blogs. As a result they will make a bigger splash on the internet for the promotion of their network. You can also benefit from this and once you have been established as an esteemed contributor, your readers will not just look at you as a part of the network alone, but as an individual expert too. Also, you can learn about the various ingenious methods of blog promotion when you are closely related to the blog networks.
Commendation and Respect:
It is not very easy to get the opportunity to be a part of the most popular and bigger blog networks. However, once you do, you automatically get the proper commendation and respect that is well deserved of every contributor to these networks. On your own blog, you can mention these commendations in your bio. This will increase your respect as a blogger.
Joining a blog network can also have its disadvantages. You might start off with a network that might have a lower scale of recognition. Sometimes you might not be able to get along with everyone. Sometimes you might find it difficult to get the time for additional interaction.
But all in, a good supportive network is always a strength. Being part of such a network surely pays off. Please share your views in the comments.
Jane runs a self-help blog Find All Answers where she writes about Blogging Tips, Relationships and Self Improvement. She is also part of the team at Coupon Triumph, a site that offers Bistro MD and Diet to go discount coupons. Here are a couple of them for you: 50% off bistromd, coupons for diet to go.
Cheers,
Jane

Hi Natalie,
Without blog networks, my blog would still be without comments and ranked in the millions on alexa. They have done wonders for my blog, also I have made many new friends and business contacts because of them.
Thanks for commenting Natalie and have a great day!

As always a great post Jane. You are absolutely right. Someone I know who is a “failed” blogger keeps on making all the mistakes possible. Will suggest to him to join a blog network and read your “Find all Answers” to learn how to succeed.

Hi Jane,
I have been involved with Blokube for a while, but haven’t used it much, I believe you are right that I should do more with these kinds of sites. Hopefully, that will help bring my traffic from a simmer to a full boil.

Hi Jane,
Solid advice. It’s important to distinguish yourself among your peers, for that’s where true collaborations take place. Niche sites like this are great because it’s where all your colleagues hang out.
Whether you’re a full time blogger looking to stand out or an network marketer using blogging as a main source of traffic for your business, you’ll definitely want to hang out at sites like Blokube, Blog Interact and Blog Engage.

Thanks for sharing these tips on getting into the blog community.

I’ve embarking on the guest posting scene recently (as have you – I’ve enjoyed your posts elsewhere as well) & am finding by simply adding my “long forgotten” blog in the bio, it has seen some amazing traffic growth. Maybe it’s time to get focused on that.

Hi Jane,
Great advice here. I am relatively new to the blogging scene and although I haven’t used a blogging community group as you mentioned I have been part of a commenting tribe. This has really helped me feel part of the action (when blogging can be such a lone activity).
I have learned so much from reading the other blog posts, and feel like their expertise and quality has rubbed off on me. I will now investigate these blog community groups you have mentioned. Thanks!

Hi Jane and Ian, thanks for putting this together.
Hey Jane, you seem to be doing a lot of guest posts lately, woo hoo! Congratulations for taking massive action.
I totally agree with all the reasons you listed here, that is why I am so grateful that I did make that decision to interact and be involved with different communities. Although , I am not so active in blog community sites such as Blokube, I do vote for people’s posts, but I am really active on Facebook groups as well as small communities. Based on experience, the smaller groups are actually a lot better in developing authentic relationships online.
Your post reminds me of the power of the law of association. A great support system is truly crucial. Thanks again for this helpful post, Jane.

Rowena, that makes sense. You can’t be active everywhere lol. It is best to focus on a handful of social media avenues and master them. You could occasionally check on the others.

HI Jane,Great to see you over here… as well as it’s been a while as I have taken a bit of a break to be off with the kids.
With that aside, this post is very good advice for newbies starting out…. or even us oldies!!
I swear that if I did not get involved and start being part of communities my growth would have been ten times slower. Building relationships amongst blogging communities is also an incredible experience and not only are the people usually awesome, you can learn so much… and much faster than going it alone.
Excellent advice Jane.

I once started with Networked Blogs and it did well for me. However, due to lack of time, I couldn’t fully implement my plan. Now, I am reconsidering to join some blog networks. These networks are very good sources for inspiration, support, and encouragement. These also offer great business opportunities, if tackled rightly.
Veronica, that’s a good decision. The more you interact the more you will get back. Of course time is always a crucial factor and you must also see that you don’t keep “interacting” always LOL.

Starting up a blog as a source of income can be tricky indeed especially if you’re like me who just started recently wherein there are already countless and fierce competitions around. I look for blogs like yours to help me get started in the right path and to hopefully gain at least a stable traffic of visitors.
Nice article. I wasn’t aware of blog networks, or any of the sites you mentioned. I’ve been mostly focusing on building my social media presence. This has shown me a new channel to complement my social networking. Thanks.
It really is an asset if one does associate in this circle. One can get respect and acknowledgement. A good advantage indeed.
My problem is that I know I want to do an ANOVA but I’m using the new Excel and having trouble. I want to compare three sample trials in four solutions at five time points. If anyone can direct me to the appropriate source or help with this I’d appreciate it. Thanks!

Good post, Jane. Starting out anew at something can definitely be a nervous experience for most, so being part of a blog network can definitely be a big help. Like you said, firstly it will help enormously in getting yourself known a bit more within the blogosphere and get yourself going much faster than if you went at it by yourself.

Building relationships with other bloggers is a good way of creating traffic to your site, and as well as the creation of new content. The people you connect with will be able to help you with the stuff that you can possibly write about. It’s going to take some time before the people in your network can call you an expert, so don’t rush things. Just do it at a normal pace and you’ll get there eventually.
Networking over the internet is as important to bloggers as networking face to face is for people in the brick and mortar business sector. I have had fun coming up with creative ways to network with other bloggers. Joining a blog network hasn’t really played a roll in my networking campaign. That changes now! Thanks.

Online networking is a great activity that has rewards for you. One major reward is that everyone in your net work group gets to know you. You want to be known in your community and blogosphere as without that you will not be able to create any kind of influence.
